The Role of the Appointed Person

Under LOLER 1998, every lifting operation must be planned by a competent person. The Appointed Person takes overall responsibility for ensuring that lifting activities are planned correctly, carried out safely, and that all personnel involved are competent and properly briefed.

On complex energy and industrial construction projects, the AP is a critical role — coordinating crane operators, riggers and slinger signallers, reviewing and approving lift plans, and managing the safe execution of lifting operations throughout the project lifecycle.
